Started to play the drums: I started playing the drums back in 1986 at school. Our teacher showed the class how to play the beat and I was one of the two guys who could repeat it straight away. I knew instantly that drums will be my instrument. I soon joined some bands and started doing gigs at the end of the 80’s. I played many years in Fuzzbender, which was grunge/stoner oriented stuff but with odd time signatures, too. Then I moved to Helsinki and joined Alliance to play some pure 80’s heavy metal, we also did some covers from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest etc. After that I spent a few years with King Remedy, which was kind of AC/DC-based straight forward rock. Then a couple of years in StarhagS and now Atrum Materia among other projects.

The best performance: Is yet to come. Among the most memorable moments are Fuzzbender’s first gig in Tallinn, Estonia, and the first time to play at the legendary Tavastia club in Helsinki.

Would love to play: Anything from Led Zeppelin.

Wouldn’t play: Anything from Katri Helena.

Favorite drummers: John Bonham, Nicko McBrain, Dave Lombardo, Ian Paice, Billy Cobham, Cozy Powell, Joe Morello, Sami Kuoppamäki, Jaska Lukkarinen, Teppo Mäkynen.

The best thing about Atrum Materia: We dare to play anything, even Smoke On The Water.
